These new domestic routes will start operating from 5th December 2020.

These new routes are another addition to previously announced new routes from Oslo:

Oslo <> Bergen

It looks that Wizz Air means its expansion in Norway seriously.

The airline has been one of the best in Europe to overcome COVID-19 drop in airline traffic as it has already launched many new bases and routes across the whole region and its flight occupancy remains relatively high.

Wizz Air will have to count with a tough competition as 3 other airlines already operate on most of these routes.

Norwegian Air Shuttle, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), and Widerøe all operate these same domestic routes.

While Wizz Air will be flying multiple times a day to each city besides Trondheim, their daily frequencies pale in comparison to those of their direct competitors.

At the time of writing, Norwegian Air Shuttle is scheduled to run about 13 round-trips per day between Oslo and Bergen in November.

SAS is scheduled to run up to 17 round-trips per day between the two cities.

Although it remains to be seen how successful this expansion ends, it is definitely a good news for all fans of cheap travelling as tickets start from just 99 NOK for one-way flight on all of these routes.

Ryanair (FR/RYR), the Irish budget airline, has announced a loss of €185m for Quarter 2 of 2020.

Whilst massive, the loss is unsprising as the quarter included an almost total grounding of air traffic due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The airline says that traffic fell 99% during the period.

Ryanair says that while traffic is recovering, it is now operating 40% of its schedule.

“It is impossible to predict how long the Covid-19 pandemic will persist” adding that “a 2nd wave of Covid-19 cases across Europe in late autumn (when the annual flu season commences) is our biggest fear right now”.

The airline expects to record a smaller loss in Quarter 3 of 2020 as it continues to increases its flying schedule.

Its main competitor Wizz Air announced €108m loss in Q2 2020.

The Central and Eastern-European focused budget airline reported a 93.2% drop in the number of passengers carried over the three months to 30 June to reach 707,184.

Nonetheless, the company’s boss, József Váradi, highlighted how the firm’s total cash balance had dipped just 3% to £1,587.9m while by end June the company was operating at near 70% capacity versus an average of 11.5% in the first quarter.

“This gives Wizz Air important operational momentum going into the summer season,” he said.

On a statutory basis, the net loss for the second quarter amounted to €108.0m, against €72.4m of profits a year earlier.

Load factor meanwhile was at 55.5% over the quarter, down from 93.7%, meaning that what planes did remain in the air were just over half full.

Making the most of a bad situation, the carrier launched 200 new routes during the quarter, opening new bases in Albania, Cyprus, Italy, Ukraine, Germany, Romania and Russia.

It also launched a Cabin Crew-to-Captain programme to allow aspiring Wizz Air cabin crew to train as pilots.

A total of 22 aircraft were re-allocated across its network, and two brand new A321-neo were scheduled to begin plying a new route to Abu Dhabi starting from 1 October.

The situation with free cabing baggage onboard various low cost airlines changes so often it is really confusing already.

Wizz Air announced today that the company also cancels free 10 kg cabin bag, following Ryanair’s very same decision just two weeks ago.

Starting from 1st November 2018, you will be entitled only to small cabin bag up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm and weight up to 10 kg.

This is a size of small backpack, notebook or handbag, definitely not a regular backpack.

Only passengers who purchased Wizz Priority boarding (starting from €5 one-way) will be entitled to standard “big” cabin bag as well, with sizes up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm.

Another new option will be to pay for this big cabin bag, which will cost €7 one-way.

This means Wizz Air basically copied Ryanair’s new cabin bag policy.

Effectively it will require you now to pay at least €10 extra for return flight if you want to travel with standard cabin bag up to 55 cm.

If you booked a Wizz Air flight before today (10th October 2018) with departure after 1st November 2018, you will still get free “big” 10 kg cabin bag.

We are sad to see such news which make it virtually impossible to travel without paying extra either for priority boarding or for big cabin bag.

Luckily the prices of low cost flights have been steadily decreasing over last few years so you simply have to count with this extra cost while purchasing the tickets.

Low-cost Hungarian airline Wizz Air is making Austria its next choice for a base as it announced a massive expansion in Vienna today!

The carrier said it will establish base operations at Vienna Airport with one Airbus A320 initially from June 2018, followed by two Airbus A321 aircraft in November 2018.

Wizz Air plans to operate 17 new routes from the Austrian capital this year for both business and leisure travellers, connecting Vienna with Gdansk, Tuzla and Varna from April. Bari, Malta, Rome, Valencia and Tel Aviv follow in June, with destinations including Bergen, Dortmund and Tenerife then added in November.

Complete alphabetical list of new destinations: Bari, Bergen, Billund, Dortmund, Gdansk, Kutaisi, Larnaca, Malta, Nis, Ohrid, Rome, Tel-Aviv, Tuzla, Tenerife, Thessaloniki, Valencia and Varna.

Seats on the routes are on sale with one-way tickets from €19.99, and in total, the airline said it will offer 450,000 seats across the new Austrian routes, operating 69 weekly flights by the end of the year.

It will be interesting to see how this expansion impacts Wizz Air’s operations from nearby Bratislava airport. Wizz Air currently operates flights to 6 destinations from Bratislava, with Tuzla being removed in April 2017.

Competitor Ryanair also flies from Bratislava to Malta, Rome Ciampino, Thessaloniki, Nis, Paphos and Bourgas.

This is definitely good news for all fans of low cost traveling in Central Europe and welcomed competition for the Vienna airport which is currently dominated by Austrian Airlines followed by Eurowings and Lufthansa.

Wow, we have some amazing news for all fans of low-cost traveling!

Wizz Air just announced on their website they are increasing the size of cabin baggage included with the ticket to standard size 55x40x23cm!!

Until now the airline included only small cabin baggage up to 42x32x25cm in the price of your flight ticket and you had to pay €10-€20 for the “big” cabin bag.

To be honest the small cabin bag size was really small and enough only for very few passengers so almost everyone had to purchase at least the bigger cabin baggage or classic check-in luggage and therefore creating great extra revenue stream for Wizz Air.

From 29th October 2017 all tickets will include big cabin bag with up to 55cm in size and 10 kg weight limit.

Vast majority of competition already offers this size in the price of the ticket, so it was just matter of time before Wizz Air has to change this rule too after many complaints from passengers.

The biggest competitor Ryanair offers even 2 bags up to 55x40x20 cm + 35x20x20 cm with every ticket.

Customers travelling on or after 29 October 2017 that have already purchased hand luggage directly through Wizz Air channels will be reimbursed with 120% of the price paid, credited to their WIZZ accounts as compensation.

Today the airline also announced a new service option for passengers called WIZZ Priority. Valid on all flights from today, WIZZ Priority now includes:

Priority boarding

Passengers able to bring an additional small bag (maximum dimensions of 40x30x18cm) into the cabin

From 29 October, a guarantee that hand luggage will be placed in the cabin (also available for passengers when purchasing WIZZ Go, WIZZ Plus and the WIZZ Privilege Pass)

This is amazing news for all travelers in Europe and we hope Wizz Air will not compensate this change in increased prices and keep their fares low.

Hungarian low cost airline Wizz Air further expands in the Eastern Europe with 2 new routes announced today.

The airline will fly from Kiev to Lisbon and Tallinn (and vice versa) from next year!

First flights will be operated on 19th April 2018.

Especially the connection between Lisbon and Kiev is very interesting with no real competition on this route, which means all fans of low-cost traveling will be able to enjoy much cheaper flight tickets than until now.

Tallinn is also interesting destination as it is Wizz Air’s first airport served in Estonia.

The prices are not available yet but we can expect something as €40 for one-way flight between Kiev and Lisbon and around €20 between Kiev and Tallinn for the cheapest tickets.

Wizz Air will also place one more Airbus A320 to Kiev base which will increase frequencies on 7 already existing routes from the Ukrainian capital.

In other news, competitor Ryanair yesterday announced it cancels the plans to start flying to Kiev and Lviv in Ukraine because it didn’t reach agreement with Kiev Borispol airport.
