Ryanair joins Amadeus: you will be able to buy Ryanair tickets everywhere from November 2014
Ryanair today announced they finally signed a deal with Amadeus.
Amadeus is biggest and the most popular booking system (GDS – global distribution system) in Europe used by majority of online booking websites.
This simply means that you will be able to book Ryanair flights on websites such as BudgetAir, Expedia or Ebookers that we also often use here at RushFlights.
Ryanair announced in their press release this step is another strategy how to reach even wider audience.
This is also a major breakthrough and significant change in the strategy of Ryanair. The company always prefered to sell tickets only on their own website.
Reasons for this are quite simple: Ryanair could easily sell additional products such as insurance, hotel bookings, car rentals and so on when you had to book the tickets on their site.
The official launch of Ryanair in Amadeus booking engine will be on 1st November 2014.
Companies using Amadeus will however most likely sell Ryanair tickets for slightly higher price, because they have to pay fees for using the system. Usually the price is around 5% higher but sometimes it can be cheaper too. Many of these companies also charge extra fee for payment via debit or credit card.
Ryanair also stated it’s open to code-sharing – cooperating with other airlines and flying for the national carriers on short-haul flights. This seems however more like a vision or wish of Michael O’Leary than actual reality.
Only the future will tell us if this step is going to change the way people buy tickets and increase the revenue for Ryanair or if the customers stick to purchasing Ryanair tickets directly on the company’s website like they used to do for ages. In every case, it’s a great news for all fans of low-cost airlines, as you will have better choice and availability of flights to your dream destination.
