Nicosia International Airport used to be main airport for Cyprus until 40 years ago. It has been abandoned and frozen in time since 1974 though when Turkish invasion to Cyprus occured, followed by civil war between Turkish and Cypriotic citizens.

Ever since the airport is part of demilitarized buffer zone controlled by United Nations which separates North and South parts of the island and reach up to 7 km at the widest point. The airport is located 8 kilometers from capital of Cyprus, Nicosia.
